BALIEM VALLEY FESTIVAL 2023
Baleim Valley is located in Jayawijaya Regency, Papua Province. Every year the Baliem Valley Cultural Festival will be held. Almost every year this festival takes place from 9 to 12 August. In 2022, this unique annual festival will be centered in Walesi District, Jayawijaya Regency, Papua Province.

This is one occasion when all the diverse tribes of the Wamena highlands and Baliem Valley such as the Dani, Lani, and Yali come together to celebrate their annual baleim valley festival. At the festival, there will be many performances played by various tribes, most of which present simulations of war between tribes and families and some traditional dances from various tribes in Baliem and Wamena.

The inter-tribal war simulation is planned to be held for two days featuring around 26 groups consisting of 30-50 fighters. This battle scene is accompanied by traditional Papuan Pikon music. Pikon is a musical instrument made of bark that produces sound when blown. The sound created produces soothing music. Not many people can play this instrument because it requires special skills. You will see many interesting performances at this 2023 baliem valley festival.

Organized by Jayawijaya Regency, this baliem valley cultural festival aims to introduce and preserve the values ​​and culture of the traditional tribes of the Baliem Valley. The Baliem Festival will be complemented by a variety of interesting arts and cultural performances, including traditional Papuan dances, pig racing, Puradan Rattan Spear Throw, Sikoko Spear game, traditional Papuan music performances, and many more. Visitors can also experience the true meaning of Papuans by wearing traditional Koteka costumes and blackening their skin so that they too can be part of the celebration of the Baliem Valley Cultural Festival from year to year.

DAY 3 – Burning Stone Tradition – Mummy Jiwika (B, L, D)

We will be greeted by traditional war wars and traditional dances
